(UTV|UNITED STATES) – Following the reveal that both Disney Pictures and later Comcast have been in talks to acquire a number of assets from 21st Century Fox, now comes word that Sony Pictures may now be interested in acquiring their film division 20th Century Fox.
The Washingon Post revealed that Fox has only been informally approached by Sony meaning talks are in the very early stages, but they reportedly are after the same assets Disney was after previously.
Sony has struggled with output for a while and so such a deal would see them gaining a lot of new and established IPs to exploit. The most notable of course is Fox’s “X-Men” franchise.
While Sony has a pre-existing deal with Marvel Studios over “Spider-Man,” reaching the same style agreement over “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” rights are hardly guaranteed. The chance of “X-Men” and “Spider-Man” crossover though would be more likely.
