[VIDEO] “Many things fulfilled to achieve the transformation needed by the country” – President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – “A day like today, 3-years ago, I came out from the then Government, with the hopes for a good transformation. By today I have fulfilled many of the things required to achieve that transformation expected by the country”, says President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President was addressing a ceremony to add 100 MW of solar electricity to the national grid, held on Tuesday (21) at the Waters Edge in Battaramulla.

“Though some parties are pointing fingers at me, I have taken necessary steps to implement my decision to take the country to the path of good governance. I have taken the country to that path to build a better and disciplined political culture by removing the political system of corruption, fraud, theft and waste”, he said.

“Nobody can give certificates about the ability or disability of the Government of good governance’s fulfilment of its targets. We can present plenty of evidence and information about our ability by the time of completion of our term of office”, the President said.

“The Government succeeded in winning the international community which had been a huge challenge faced by the country three years ago. We were able to build friendship with all states and international organisations in the world. The Government has successfully achieved large number of goals for the betterment of the country,” he further stated.

“We are now getting the good results of the decisions taken to remove sanctions, end the discussion on the execution by electric chair and international military tribunals, strengthen the human rights through the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, establish independent commissions by ensuring the independence of all sectors and ensure the rule of law by changing the system in which the judiciary was controlled by former leaders” the President explained.

“Everybody who is wise should think as to what would have happened if the country had continued on the same destructive path during the last three years too, without any transformation” he emphasised.
