(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Civil Aviation and Transport Ministry on Thursday (07) had requested Railway Trade Unions to call off their strike considering the inconvenience caused to the public.
Thousands of commuters were left stranded yesterday, following an unannounced strike by the Railway Locomotive Engine Drivers Union who are demanding a revision of the existing recruitment policies.
The Union launched the train strike at midnight on Wednesday (06) urging authorities to revise existing recruitment policies for assistant train drivers.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and National Transport Commission (NTC) deployed additional buses to avoid the inconvenience caused to the public due to the railway strike.
