(UTV|COLOMBO) – 22 Division footballers secured the victory in the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) – organized, Inter Division Football Tournament – 2017 defeating the 23 Division for 1 to Nil, held at the 22 Division grounds in Trincomalee recently.
Both teams played aggressively from the beginning of the match and posed threats by attacking the opponent’s goal. 22 Division, not to be outdone, kept the opponents at bay by foiling all the efforts of scoring opportunities through their defence and found solace at the second half when they scored a goal.
It was organized by the 22 Division Headquarters under the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Division, Major General Aruna Jayasekara and under the supervision of the Brigade Commander, 221 Brigade, Brigadier Sumith Premalal.
The preliminary round matches were also played during 24-27 December with the participation of 22, 23, 24 Divisions and FMA – East football teams.
Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces – East, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and trophies to the winners.
The runners-up received their certificates from the GOC, 22 Division.
Rev Fr. Dr. Paul Robihson, Fr. B. Jeyabalan, distinguished invitees, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and many civilians witnessed the final match.
