UTV | Abu Dhabi – Dense fog has caused a car pileup in Abu Dhabi, involving between 40 and 70 cars, according to local media reports.
A video circulating on social media showed drivers getting out of their cars and running away from a speeding truck that rammed into the vehicles in dense fog on Tuesday morning. UTV News could not the verify the authenticity of the video.
According to Al Khaleej Online The pileup reportedly occurred on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway, although there were other reports suggesting it had occured on the Al-Ain highway.
Police patrols and paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident. Any injuries and damage are yet to be officially announced. Yet, as per the Gulfnews, more than Twenty-two people sustained serious to moderate injuries after 40- 70 vehicles crashed in Abu Dhabi.
Dubai-based Al Bayan newspaper reported that traffic police dealt with three other accidents caused by dense fog on Shaikh Mohammed Rashid Highway and two others in the region of Al-Ain.
Al Arabiya weather reporter Hiba Zarour confirmed that foggy weather will persist in the Abu Dhabi region until Saturday.
The police urged people in cars not to slow down at the sites of the accident, which disrupts traffic and causes further congestion.
