(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Court of Appeal has determined that students who obtain their medical degree at the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine or SAITM, are eligible to register with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
The decision was announced by Appeals Court Chairman Judge Vijith Malalgoda and S Thurairajasingham.
The order was issued after considering a writ petition filed by a student which claimed that she has the right to register with the Sri Lanka Medical Council after acquiring a degree from SAITM.
The Appeals Court said SAITM has been given the legal provision to award degrees according to the Acts of the University Grants Commission and the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
