(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy held a constructive dialogue to discuss a methodology for coordinating and mitigating national level Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents at ports and harbours, with the interested stakeholders in the sphere. The meeting which was held at the Naval Headquarters recently was chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations of the Navy, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva.
The purpose of the dialogue was to prepare a national level plan to face such incidents, as and when they would transpire in the future, through shared responsibility by all stakeholders in collaboration with the Navy. As a positive outcome of this fruitful discussion, Deputy Director – Disaster Management Centre agreed to provide a four-storied building and a few Outboard Motors (OBMs) for the Disaster Management Centre of SLN.
The meeting was also attended by senior naval officers, directors and officials of Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council, Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, National Authority for implementation of Chemical Weapon Convention in Sri Lanka, Country office for the World Health Organization, Colombo Fire Service Department, Colombo Port Fire Service, Colombo Port Health Office, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air force and Special Task Force of Sri Lanka Police.
