Right To Information Act in effect from today

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Right to Information Act will come into effect from today (03rd Friday). The gazette notification in relation to the Act was issued on the 21st of January.

Government Ministries, boards, departments, public corporations, incorporated companies, Provincial Councils, Provincial Departments and local authorities are subject to the Act.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Mass Media said institutions including Non-Governmental Organizations, private universities and higher education institutions including professional institutions and courts are included in the Act.

The Right to Information Draft Bill was tabled in Parliament on the 24th of June, 2016.

All Sri Lankans will be able to obtain the information they require from any state office, while information pertaining to state institutions can be obtained through state officials.
