“Fast and Furious” gets a Netflix animated series

(UTV|COLOMBO) – As part of its multi-year deal with Netflix, DreamWorks Animation Television is reportedly exploring Universal Pictures’ film library properties to adapt following the Comcast-NBCUniversal acquisition of DreamWorks.

As a result, they’ve been given the go-ahead for an animated series based on “The Fast and the Furious” franchise. The story will follow Tony Toretto, Dom (Vin Diesel)’s teenage cousin, as he and his friends are recruited by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league that is a front for a criminal organisation bent on world domination.

Vin Diesel, Neil Moritz and Chris Morgan are attached to the series as executive producers, while Tim Hedrick (“Voltron: Legendary Defender”) and Bret Haaland (“All Hail King Julien”) will serve as both executive producers and showrunners.

The series is currently in development, and won’t hit before the live-action spin-off feature “Hobbs & Shaw,” starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, opens in cinemas July next year.
