Public Utilities Commission rules out power crisis

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Denying any fears of an impending power crisis, Sri Lanka’s power regulator expressed confidence that power can be supplied through emergency power, and various other mechanisms.

“There is no power crisis. Capacity is there and there is possibility to purchase thermal power from the private sector or can be supplied through the emergency power and various other mechanisms,” Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Director General Damitha Kumarasinghe said.

Kumarasinghe however pointed out that the issue was with the cost and not with the supply of power. “It is not an issue of providing 24×7 power supply, but the problem is with the cost.”
