“Sicario” and “Uncle Drew” overperform at box-office

(UTV|COLOMBO) – “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and “Uncle Drew,” both exceeding expectations at the box-office, even as “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” still dominated business, the Variety reported.

The dinosaur sequel pulled in a further $60 million domestic in its second weekend, a 59% drop but even so – its domestic haul stands at $264.8 million while the film has earned $932 million globally. The animated superhero sequel pulled in a further $44.6 million in second place on its third weekend, racking up a domestic haul of $438.8 million so far.

“Sicario: Day of the Soldado” opened with $19 million while “Uncle Drew” scored $15.5 million – both higher than the $10-13 million they were each expected to earn. “Ocean’s 8” closed out the top five with a further $8 million. In limited release, the documentary “Three Identical Strangers” scored a superb per screen average of $32,000.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” opens next week and is on track for a $68-80 million debut.
