Samples collected from suspected LTTE explosives found in Tamil Nadu

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Samples collected from explosives found in Tamil Nadu, believed to have been buried by the LTTE during the war in Sri Lanka.

India Today reported that for the second time this week, officials from the Petroleum and Explosives Organization in Chennai collected samples for examination from the explosive substances that were unearthed earlier in Rameshwaram’s Thangachimadam village on June 25 while digging for a septic tank.

Deputy controller of explosives Sheikh Hussain from Chennai along with Ramnad district police officials inspected the locations and collected the samples again.

The explosives are suspected to be buried by militant groups in the 1980s during the time of the civil war in Sri Lanka.

So far officials have found 5,500 medium machine gun rounds, 400 heavy machine gun rounds, 4,928 self-loading rifle, around 199 TNT slab demolitions, four big safety fuse wires and four small safety fuse wires, 20 landmines, 20 M-5 302 rifle rounds, 11 gunpowder packets for SLR and 87 signal.

The explosives were expected to be shifted to a godown at Sivaganga district under tight security.
