“Birds of Prey”, “Flying Horse” get tax credits

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The California Film Commission has revealed that nineteen feature films had been chosen for tax credits totaling $52.2 million, with the DC Comics adaptation “Birds of Prey” starring Margot Robbie receiving the lion’s share.

Robbie reprises her Harley Quinn role in the film which will receive $12.6 million in credit for shooting in California. The Cathy Yan-directed film is on track to spend nearly $63 million in state qualified expenditures.

Gary Oldman penned and directed “Flying Horse,” a historical biopic about 19th century photographer Eadweard Muybridge, is also receiving a $5 million allocation. Also doing well was “Covers” at Universal with $6.5M, “The Has Been” at Warners with $4.8M, “The Hunt” at Universal with $3.7M, and FOX’s “Rent: Live” at $2.7M.

The tax credit covers up to 25% of a film’s budget with films like “Captain Marvel,” “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Bumblebee” previously benefitting from the program.
