James Franco to direct an “ESPN” biopic

(UTV|COLOMBO) – James Franco is reportedly in negotiations to direct a film adaptation of James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales’ non-fiction novel “Those Guys Have All the Fun” at Focus Features.

“Halt and Catch Fire” co-creator Christopher C. Rogers has been tapped to rewrite the script for the film which will explore the formation of the powerhouse sports network ESPN.

The story follows Bill Rasmussen, a communications executive who teamed up with his son, Scott, to launch the world’s first 24-hour cable TV network which showed sporting events nonstop throughout the day.

The book is based on more than 500 interviews with ESPN insiders, athletes and others. Michael De Luca, Jamie Patricof and Julie Yorn are producing the film.

Franco still has three films in post-production – “Zeroville,” “The Long Home” and “The Pretenders” – and will soon be seen in the sci-film “Kin”.
