“Racial discrimination and religious bigotry have no place in Sri Lanka” – Premier

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Participating in the Annual Madhu Church Festival on Wednesday (15), Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that no religion promotes hate yet some people utilise religion to promote violence.

“Racism and religious intolerance will not be accommodated again,” Premier emphasised.

He further stressed that during the 30-year war the Madhu Church gave refuge to all those affected, and the Church can be identified as a centre for reconciliation as it is accepted by all communities in Sri Lanka.

Premier also handed over a donation of Rs. 1 million allocated by the Tourism and Christian Affairs Ministry for administrative purposes of Madhu Church.

The Annual Madhu Festival was concluded following the main mass conducted by Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. Mannar Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Fidelis Lionel Emmanuel Fernando participated. Mannar District Secretariat and Madhu Divisional Secretariat facilitated Madhu devotees who arrived for the annual celebration.
