Banks to star in film about Prince contest

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Paramount Players has optioned The Daily Beast story “When Prince Made a Chambermaid His Queen for a Day” with plans to turn the article into a feature. Elizabeth Banks plans to produce and star in the film which will be titled “Queen For A Day”.

Flora Greeson has been hired to rewrite a first draft by Josh Stolberg which will deal with the chaos that occurred in 1986 when Warner Bros. Pictures hatched a contest to draw attention to Prince’s Purple Rain follow-up feature “Under The Cherry Moon”.

They did so with an MTV contest in which the 10,000th caller would get to have the film’s premiere in the winner’s hometown, followed by a concert toplined by Prince and The Revolution. Hotel maid Lisa Barber from Sheridan, Wyoming won the contest and the film will deal with both her and the female Manhattan PR exec responsible for the event which changed both their lives.

Prince himself will not be played by an actor in the film, though the presence of the late purple-clad rock icon will hover throughout the film. Stolberg, Max Handelman and David Klawans will produce.
